Q: What is Starks Elite?
A: Starks Elite, in its inaugural year, is an Elite Spring Basketball program created in partnership with the Northland Youth Basketball Alliance. Based out of Duluth, MN this program allows talented athletes to stay local while playing on a top-level team against top-level talent.
Q: What are the age requirements to tryout?
A: Starks Elite has two teams for the 2019 Spring Season. The 13U boys team is comprised of 6th and 7th grade athletes who were born after 9/1/2005. The 17U boys team is comprised of high school juniors (2018/2019 school year).

Q: What should I bring to tryouts on October 14th?
A: Bring a basketball and water. Arrive 15 minutes early. Tryouts will start on-time.

Q: What is the cost to tryout?
A: The cost to tryout is $15. This fee is non-refundable.

Q: How do I sign up for tryouts?
A: You must be signed up online to participate in tryouts. Sign ups can be found at: https://www.northlandhoops.com/book-online

Q: Will everyone make the team?
A: All athletes interested in playing should attend the tryouts on October 14th, 2018. The top 8-10 athletes in each age division will make the team. In the event that an athlete who makes the team cannot commit, an alternate will be chosen to fill the roster.

Q: Do I have to be part of the Starks Academy to tryout?
A: No. All athletes are welcomed to tryout for Starks Elite.

Q: Is this an AAU team?
A: The Starks Elite teams will play in both AAU tournaments and other Spring tournaments in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Q: How many tournaments will the Starks Elite teams play?
A: The 13U team will play between 5-7 tournaments beginning in late April and concluding in June. The 17U team will play in 6-9 tournaments beginning in April and concluding in mid-July.

Q: What is the cost to play?
A: The cost for the 13U team is $375.00/athlete. The cost for the 17U team is $450.00/athlete.

Q: What does this fee include?
A: This includes each athletes uniform kit, warm up shirts, tournament fees, coaching fees, insurance and gym fees. This fee does not include food, hotels or transportation to and from tournaments.

Q: Is there scholarship money available?
A: YES! The NYBA and Starks Elite will not turn any athlete away based on financial need. If an athlete makes the team, but is not able to afford the cost to play, the NYBA, in partnership with community donors, will FIND A WAY to make playing a reality.

Q: How often will each team practice?
A: Each team will practice, at minimum, twice per week. Most practices will take place in the evening. Please expect Sunday evening practices, to allow multi-sport athletes the ability to participate.

Q: Do you plan to have more teams in the future?
A: Starks Elite will grow slowly in order to protect the integrity of the program. In future years, teams may be added at an elite level, but that is not guaranteed.
